From the boat launch, we dropped in the SUPs with the intent of paddling across the lake and then following the edge back. It seemed so easy at the beginning, but in 90 degree weather and some significant distance, it turned out to be an upper body and foot buster. Thankfully the amazement of being on a lake, in a caldera kept the motivation high and having crystal clear, crisp water to instantly rejuvenate made it for a perfect challenge.
The Reward:
Having never been to Paulina Lake before we had no idea this gem would be waiting for us. Just cruising along to check out the area only to find, a something to write home about bar, sitting nonchalantly, in the middle of nowhere. Better yet, an extremely cool bar sitting at the bottom of a caldera with really good draft beer. What? Draft Mirror Pond Ale all day long.
