Conquering the annual Smelt 10K

The Challenge:

La Conner

La Conner, Washington is Skagit Counties oldest town having been established in the 1860s. The picturesque waterfront village is situated on the Swinomish Channel and is surrounded by tulip and daffodil fields with breathtaking views of Mount Baker. La Conner also features a handful of amazing farm to table restaurants for the foodie in all of us. We recommend checking out the Polish restaurant, Anelias. They possibly have the best goulash in the world.

We are always looking for the perfect excuse to visit the beautiful and historic waterfront village of La Conner, Washington.  Excuses aside, when we got the official invite for the 2017 Smelt 10k we were beyond excited.  Who wouldn’t want to go for an early morning run by the Swinomish Channel and get supreme shots of Mount Baker in the background.  Delicious. Super delicious. The official 10k started a bit outside of town and looped through downtown, out through gorgeous daffodil and tulip fields.  What a great race! But wait, where was that tasty smelt at the end?

The Reward:

What is the best way to wash down some of that tasty smelt that we didn’t eat?  Farmstrong Brewing company my friends.  Farmstrong Brewery is a staple in Skagit County and is quickly becoming one of our favorite breweries. Sipping out of jars and nibbling on the badass gyros from a food truck…perfect combination. Recommend beer:  Stacking Hay IPA.
